I realised at a traffic light this morning, that I’d yet again forgotten to lock my car doors after dropping the kids off. And it got me thinking that I’m a bit strange…
I generally only realise that my car doors are unlocked when I’ve stopped at a traffic light and there are people loitering close by.
So what do I do… I wait until the hawker or beggar or whom ever walks away, before I lock the doors.
Weird hey? You would think that I would lock immediately, but no, I feel embarrassed to do it with them right there. It’s an admission that I distrust them, and I think that’s rude.
So instead, I risk a smash and grab, and I would rather watch them until they’re far enough away from the car for them not to hear the car locking.
LOL! I know… I’m strange.

They arent going to smash and grab you if your doors are unlocked – they do it if they see something you have on your seat!
I actually do the EXACT same thing Jeanette – if the door isnt locked – and it generally isnt – I cand lock it if their are people around for the same reason!

I thought your car locked automatically.
No – doesn’t bother me – if they’re not locked I will generally lock them at the first traffic light I come to – I obviously don’t trust anybody! How very sad to be like that!

My doors lock automatically, but do you know that I am exactly the same?

I do exactly the same thing!

I lock it and feel ashamed – and it’s funny because I always think the lock is LOUDER when there is a newspaper seller or whatever coming towards my car, like they can hear it and they are going to judge me.

LOL I have been like that, but since decided it just has to happen, whether it embarrasses me or not. my truck actually locks now when I go over 12 MPH, so that is nice. but I lock as soon as I get in the truck usually.
Around here there is really few reasons to do this…but I feel better being locked in.

You’re so brilliant to think and blog these little things because myself – as well as the majority – seem to do the same thing when it’s actually kind of putting ourselves at risk not. Crazy

I have to say ditto too!!! Fortunately VW’s have a very quiet locking mechanism so when I was driving the golf I used to pretend I was scratching my ribs but actually I was surreptitiously pressing on the button with my elbow

Before central locking I used to do the exact same thing

Not strange at all! I don’t want people to assume I think they’re going to try and get into my car!
I’ve made such a habit of locking the door as soon as I get in or out of the car…even if I pop into the shop and Rudi is in the car I still lock the door. That is more than I can say for him. He leaves me in the car with the door unlocked, window open and keys in the ignition. I keep shouting at him about it!
