It’s raining as I type this. The first beautiful rain of summer… with accompanying thunder and lightning.
And the smell is just glorious. There’s nothing better after a dry Highveld winter than the smell of wet earth during the first rains of the season.
And what also happens is that Twitter explodes (yes, Joburgers are mad that way, we get excited and just tweet about supposedly random stuff)… and Facebook does a sad whimper of a catchup about half an hour later. Everyone wakes up and starts tweeting and trying to first figure out whether they actually heard thunder or whether it was in their imagination… and then the word spreads and you try to work out whether it’s close to you or widespread… trying to work out whether you’ll actually get rain.
And then you smile… raindrops
Summer has arrived!!
Now we’ll start getting jacarandas blooming, and green grass and loads of roses and day lilies and we’ll have cleaner skies and the brown haze on the horizon will disappear.
Just trying to ignore the fact that I’ll have to start watching weather again for my photoshoots

I heard the thunder but we unfortunately didn’t get any rain. I loved listening to the thunder tucked in bed though…:) Ah Summer time!!!

Heh heh, I always wonder what the togs are up to when it rains on a weekend!
That said, I love the rain, I can’t stand the smell of mud after the rain, and I would like the jacarandas to get cut down and save us some water!
