AKA The perfect end to a weekend!
Laura sent a message on FB last week to a few of us organising an afternoon at Gilroys to celebrate Natasha’s birthday. Because Lance was working, it was just me and the kids… and we all had a ball.
Gilroys is a brewery just outside Johannesburg, and is on the Ngwenya Glass premises in Honeydew. Thankfully we booked because it was jam packed!!
I LOVED the place!! It was so awesome to sit outside (albeit freezing) on benches drinking beer, chatting, laughing, eating and listening to live old-school pub music. And yes, I actually had a beer… an entire one… this is highly unusual for me as I can’t normally have more than a few sips… but that Traditional brew that I had was most awesome!!
The kids kept themselves busy with a soccer ball and in the play area (although Bradley declared it small and full of poo… not sure what kind of poo ‘cos I didn’t go check LOL!), and they went beading at one of the stores.
Gilroy himself is on the left, and had a few toasts every hour or so… such fun!! The fun included some poetry and generally a lot of laughs… with part of the entertainment being a haka which one of the patrons tried to copy… was too hilarious!
What a fabulous afternoon!! We’re definitely going back there
it was the perfect end to a weekend and just what I needed!

Gilroys is an old favourite. We love going on a Sunday
If you go back again you *must* try their beef and beer pie, it’s heavenly!!!
Its such a cool place! I love Gilroy’s poems (which you can find on their website).
And I love the silly signs all over the place!
So glad everyone had a good time. I have been dying to get back there. LOL next time I will remember my snow suit!
Looks like fun!! Was amazed at the beaded dragonfly Connor insisted he’d made. Both his teacher and I questioned him and he was adamant that he’d made it. Once I got the full story (at home) then I understood. Teacher now needs telling the entire story as she also doubted his ability – and he needs to take it tomorrow for show and tell for the letter ‘D’
aaah man, these are awesome Jeanette. thank you <3
I had a great time!
cant wait for the next one!
