I was invited to attend one of Zomato’s Foodie events that they hold in restaurants around Johannesburg. Last night, the event was held at the Gardenia Boutique Hotel in Craighall Park. They’ve recently opened their small restaurant up for non-guests.
There were 15 guests at dinner last night, and we all sat at one big table. It’s always interesting going to events like this, and meeting new people!
If there’s one person you need to follow on Zomato, it’s Laura’s World. My word, she’s been to so many restaurants in Joburg! She was so interesting to talk to… she keeps a paper food journal and writes about her experiences at restaurants… now she really needs to get a blog up and running, I reckon she’d have a huge following in no time at all.
I had a really great evening!
This was my Zomato review:
We had a 5 course meal with a wine pairing. Nigel’s choice of wines were amazing! I don’t really enjoy white wines, but his choice of the Hermanus Pietersfontein Sauvignon Blanc with the salmon and smoked chicken starter was great. I also loved the red wines he chose… I really need to try more of the Eagles Nest selection, because the Merlot Nigel chose to pair with the lamb course was fabulous!
As for the food, my favourite course was the lamb loin which was serves with sweet potato and ginger mash and a mint jus… the only reason I didn’t finish it was because I was so full by then!
I didn’t try the desserts for the same reason, but the cappuccino to end the evening was great!
I’d love to go back with my husband and friends for a meal… because the restaurant is so small, I think it would be a great evening out.
The first course was a smoked chicken and pomegranate with vanilla vodka, and salmon with tzatziki. It was served with a gorgeous white wine… Hermanus Pietersfontein Sauvignon Blanc.
The second course, a chicken and mushroom soup, was served with a Zevenwacht Rose.
The third course was fillet medallions with cajun seasoning and a vegetable stack. Thankfully my husband wasn’t with me, because it was really very rare… he would’ve sent it back! LOL! I enjoyed it 🙂 It was served with Glen Carlou Cabernet Sauvignon. LOVED the wine 🙂
The fourth course was my favourite. Lamb loin served with sweet potato and ginger mash. It was YUM! Such a pity I was so very full by then and couldn’t finish it. The wine was also amazing… Eagles Nest Merlot… I need to get more of that for my collection at home.
