Connor on tattoos

July 31, 2011 filed under kids | 7 Comments

I was reading a few stories to Connor in bed this afternoon, trying to get him to nap because he’s getting sick again (and it’s SO the wrong time cos we’re going on holiday soon!).  Between books, I put some tatgoo on my tattoo cos it was getting itchy, and he asks…

“Mommy, will you have your tattoo forever?”

Me: “Yes, forever and ever”

Connor: “Even when you’re dead?”

Me:  ”Even when I’m dead.  Everyone will know forever that I love you and Bradley”

Connor: “Then we’ll have to give you a kiss through the ground”

Aww my huggable child :)  I swear, he is just loves affection… he cannot get enough hugs and kisses from us :)

Mommy…

July 15, 2011 filed under kids | 7 Comments

A conversation in the car yesterday:

Connor “Mommy, when will you get old?”
Me “me?” thinking that I’d heard wrong
Connor “yes”
Me “Don’t you think I’m old?”
Connor “No”

Ahhh I love this child :) )

And on the subject of age, I haven’t decided on my tattoo yet for my Project 40 Bucket List :/

The tantrum and then revenge

June 17, 2011 filed under kids, technology | 10 Comments

Connor threw an almighty tantrum when we got home from a photo delivery this afternoon, because he wanted to play Xbox and I wouldn’t let him.

And my camera was on the table next to me… so I needed evidence… thought it would be good for bribery later ;)

Then I left him watching TV, made myself some tea… and heard music which sounded familiar… I followed the sound… and found him hiding behind the couch playing Plants vs Zombies on my iPhone!

What is a sacrifice?

May 20, 2011 filed under kids | 3 Comments

I was editing today’s images listening to the boys conversation downstairs when I heard this…

They were watching an animated programme on TV about superheroes, and Connor asked Bradley to explain part of the story.  So as part of the explanation, Bradley had to explain what the word sacrifice meant, and he told him that the one guy had to sacrifice himself to save the other person.

So Connor replies quite ernestly “Bradley, I know, I know, I’ll sacrifice you”

LOL, he clearly understood the concept :)

A roundup from this weekend

May 9, 2011 filed under Me | 16 Comments

It was a big weekend actually.  You knew about Bradley’s party, and you knew that my parent’s dog was coming to stay but you don’t know:

1.  My granny died on Saturday morning.  My dad phoned me just after 9am to tell me the news.  Granny Marie was the granny I visited in Hermanus a few weeks ago.  The one who was fine until a few weeks ago.  The one who told me that she was tired.  Oh my word, I loved her a lot.  In a few days I’ll write a proper post about her like I wrote about my grandpa when he died, but I’m not ready yet.

2.  Bradley and Connor are playing XBox LEGO Star Wars every moment they can, and it’s already driving me dilly.  It’s only taken 4 days for me to completely lose it with them.

3.   The dog situation worked ok… until yesterday when Jackie tried to play with a old hoof in the garden.  She let it go, and Kimo grabbed it.  She then just attacked him, which he didn’t take kindly to… so he then just went for her… and eventually had her by the neck.  Thankfully he listened to Lance and no physical harm was done.  But we had to seperate her from the huskies for the night… and she went home today.  I just couldn’t take the risk of leaving her outside with the huskies.  She was just looking for trouble all the time with Kimo, and he warned her enough times.  Anyhow, it’s a pity because she’s stopped a lot of her anxious licking while she was here, and the raw wound on her leg was actually healing for the first time in months (I think it was because they kept her very busy).

4.  Lance and the boys took me out for supper last night to Mo-zam-bik… I LOVED the prawns in beer sauce… no-one else really enjoyed their food… but anyhoo.  They did give me a gorgeous bracelet though… which I thought was a nice touch for Mothers Day.

5.  Bradley made me a simple bead necklace (with green and white beads) at school for Mother’s Day.  I wore the necklace last night to supper.  He loved that I wore it.  Connor however, was very jealous of it, and wanted to grab it off my neck.

I’m getting a little tired of all the jealousy in the house actually.  If I sit in the lounge and the dogs are around, Kimo tries to get as close to me as he can… until Kitara jumps onto my lap.  If I get close to Lance, Connor appears and wants to be cuddled.  If I sit next to Lance on the couch, Connor wedges himself between us.  If I sit with Bradley, the same thing happens.  If I sit with Connor, the dogs jump all over us. And having Jackie in the house made it a thousand times worse!

Anyhoo, back to work, these images aren’t going to edit themselves!

Two twins?

May 7, 2011 filed under kids | 4 Comments

Connor’s best friend at the moment is Jordan.  At the party today, Jordan and Connor were inseperable… possibly partly because they were the youngest in the crowd… but also because they’re such good friends at school even though Jordan is a year older than Connor.

So Lance commented about the friendship during the party, to which Connor replied “but we’re twins, Dad”

Twins?  Really?  According to Connor  it’s “because I’m also 4 now”.

LOL!   Then this evening I was chatting to Connor about this, and asking him about his theory, and then he said “But anyway, I have 2 twins”

Seriously “Two twins?”

“Yes” he said, “But I don’t know who the other twin is yet”

Hmmm, makes me wonder again about that theory about kids and angels.

A fun day with friends

April 24, 2011 filed under kids | 3 Comments

So now we’re back at home, and I have another week off work.  I have declared this a fun stay-cation.  We are not going to be sitting at home twiddling our thumbs… and I haven’t booked many shoots so that I can spend time with the kids (other than the editing backlog of course)

Yesterday, Josh came to play for the day to allow his mom some quiet studying time… and I took the 3 boys to the Spur for lunch and the ten pin bowling.  Partly because the weather was so crap and I knew they’d be driving me nuts :) but they had a ball! And if you look closely at the last image… you’ll see that Connor won the game, much to Bradley’s disgust! LOL!

And then to end the day, Madelein and her family and Sue and Josh had dinner at our house.

The kids were exhausted after all that :) Mission accomplished

Angry Birds and a little boy

April 13, 2011 filed under kids | 12 Comments

Connor is obsessed with Angry Birds.  As soon as I get home in the evening, he grabs my iPhone and that’s the end of that… until the battery goes flat!

He’s so comfortable navigating around my phone now, and can basically show you where everything is and how it works.

Even though I’m quite relieved some days to get him out of my hair for a while, while he plays games… I’ve discovered that I’m not getting the phone calls I should be getting.

It turns out he’s also become my call screener!! Now if it was a marketer that was trying to sell me something, I wouldn’t be so bothered, but this week it was my new boss!!

LOL!

I was chatting to my parents and my sister, and Bradley came running into the kitchen with Connor throwing a tantrum behind him… he was yelling that I had a phone call.  By the time I got the phone though, the person had put the phone down.

He phoned back a minute later though, and then told me that he’d tried phoning about 4 times, and had had long conversations with Connor… but couldn’t convince him to give the phone to me.

LOL!! Thankfully he has kids and thought the whole situation was quite funny.

He told me the next day that when Connor answered the phone, and he’d said he wanted to speak to me, that Connor just replied “My Mommy’s busy, she’s talking to my granny” and promptly put the phone down!

Nothing was going to get in the way of him and his game.

Bad news from the dentist today

March 14, 2011 filed under kids | 10 Comments

I took the boys to the dentist this afternoon.  It’s been far too long since our last visit, and in fact it was Connor’s first time.  I know, I know, I’m a bad mom.

But that’s not the reason for this feeling of guilt that’s just eating at me this evening.  And it’s not even my fault really, but that’s not stopping the guilty feeling at all.

Bradley has to go back to the dentist next month to have seals put on his back molars.

The last time we went to the dentist she told me to make sure he brushed his back teeth properly.

This time it was a different story.  His molars are now there, and I didn’t realise they’re his adult molars.

The problem is that the enamel hasn’t formed properly on them, and they’re going to be problematic if he doesn’t have them sealed now.

Before she told me the problem, she asked me whether he’d been ill for an extended period or had had a lot of antibiotics.  It kills me to know that the time that he was so sick and ended up with Steven Johnson syndrome and probably also all the antibiotics he had for his ears (but more than likely the sulphur and Steven Johnson issue) caused this lifetime problem :( ( because that is when these teeth were forming

I know it’s not my fault, and we did our very best to find the reason for him getting so sick… but it still doesn’t stop me from feeling guilty.
