A cupcake would go down well

22 Aug

You would think that after eating quite a few of Angel‘s red cupcakes on Friday and yesterday, that I would have had enough.
But nooo, today Bananaramagirl and Snowgoose had cupcakes for us to eat for the photoshoot… and they were divine.  These ones were chocolate with butter icing and the most gorgeous crowns and gold T’s decorated them.
In fact,  I’m yearning for more.  They would go down so well tonight, while I’m editing… and we don’t even have a chocolate in the house!

Oh woe is me :( (

A real chicken

18 Aug

Snippet of a conversation this afternoon, in the car, while we were discussing what to buy for supper

Me:  Pork is made from pigs

Bradley:  also bacon!

Bradley:  And Connor, chicken is made from REAL chickens

Connor: No, no, no, chicken comes from REAL shops

I couldn’t help laughing!

My great day would include…

24 Jun

Sleepy Jane posed a question on her blog:  What, for you, would be a really great day?

My great day would include:

  • being able to sleep in late and not have to clean the kitchen from the doggy doo’s
  • kids not fighting once
  • going shopping for a new Macbook and new wardrobe without having to worry about budget
  • having lunch with friends at a nice adult food restaurant with a fabulous play area with fantastic service and a brilliant kids menu too (now that’s a mystical place… there isn’t a place like that in JHB especially with the service!)
  • taking photos of friends and family without them running away
  • going to bed early without having to edit said photos :)

I can dream…

If you eat a fish

22 May

I made tortillas for supper with mince and cheese and lettuce. As usual Bradley wolfed it down, as wraps are his favourite food… Connor however, gave up and had a banana and a naartjie instead.

So we got talking about our favourite foods. Bradley’s is wraps, Connor’s is hamburgers, and the kids asked me what mine was. And of course, my answer wasn’t simple… because I can’t choose just one food item as a favourite. My answer was curry, prawns, ribs and sushi :)

Lance asked the kids if they knew what sushi was. Bradley said yes, it’s raw fish… and turned his nose up.

Connor was silent for a bit, before piping up “but if you eat a fish… it’ll go all flappity flap in your tummy” (while waving his hands around)

Haha!

Me and food

12 May

Being Brazen has a few questions that beg getting answered again….

1. Snack of the week… snack biscuits and blue cheese
2. Currently I am craving… a cappuccino and a chocolate croissant
3. Last night for dinner I had… a prawn curry from O’Galito’s in Benmore… I went to a team dinner… hence no #365 photo.  The food was awesome!
4. For lunch today I am having… probably something from Woolies… I’m going to Sandton at lunchtime to swap some clothes that Bradley got for his birthday cos they’re far too small… if you’re wondering… Bradley wears size 8-9 now!
5. Right now my favourite food blog/website is… I don’t follow foodie blogs, almost all other types of blogs, but not those
5. What’s your favourite comfort food? curry – either a thai green curry or Butter chicken
6. Favourite quick meal? egg on toast
7. Italian, Mexican or Chinese? Italian…  not pizza though, I’m so over pizza

and you?

A dream of a competition

1 Mar

I’m weird this way, to win this competition on Kim Gray’s blog to win Le Creusset stuff would be a dream come true!

Their pots are on my endless wishlist… I would LOVE to get one of their pots!!

Or one of the kettle that I could use on the gas hob when there’s a power failure.

Or one of the flat casserole dishes for making curries!

Oh how I wish!

A tarty challenge

12 Feb

While I was eating a peppermint caramel sundae last night and editing photos and chatting on Twitter, all at the same time, I tweeted that my peppermint crisp tart tasted better than the Woolies one I was eating.

When I opened up my twitter stream on my phone this morning while drinking tea in bed and winding up to face the day, I noticed that Woolies had responded and they want to comment but can only do so after tasting my recipe ;)

So without further ado, here is how to make the easiest pudding in the world (as given to me by my sister and given to her by one of her varsity friends while they were on a student exchange in Sweden)

Peppermint Crisp Tart

2 x 250ml cream whipped
2 x tins caramel
1 packet Baker’s tennis biscuits
1 large slab (300g I think) of Cadbury’s peppermint crisp chocolate grated

Whip the cream and then mix in the caramel (I normally use 1 and a half tins) and half of the grated chocolate.

Line a square or rectangular dish with whole tennis biscuits

Layer the mixture, and then another layer of biscuits and then the mixture etc, ending with the mixture.

Sprinkle the remaining grated chocolate on top

… and enjoy!

I actually baked yesterday

24 Jan

I’ve been reading and watching all the bloggers around me bake cupcakes and other stuff for ages… and I’ve been far too lazy to even try.

Then last night we went to Madi‘s house for supper, and Pierre made marinaded fillet steak.  Our regular thing is that whichever family is the guest family brings the pudding.

I really really struggled to figure out what to make, then I had a brain wave… chocolate brownies!!

So, I actually made them.  I made the Jamie Oliver brownies after going and buying ALL the ingredients as I have NO baking ingredients in the house.  And it was yummy!! And so it should be with the 2 slabs of Lindt 70% chocolate and cocoa powder and all the sugar too!

Connor speaks…

19 Oct

I got home a bit late this evening, so we went to get pizza for supper. As we drove away from the shop with our pizzas, Connor pipes up from the back seat…

“Bye bye Pizza man”

… silence…

“I love the pizza man”

LOL!! And promptly ate almost an entire pizza when we got home!

Fork or pork

28 Jun

I love the way Connor speaks :)   I really have to make more of an effort to blog about it now, before he speaks properly.

I’d just dished up Connor’s supper, and got a spoon out of the cutlery holder when he pipes up…

“A pork Mommy, a pork, not a poon!!”

Hehe :)
