October can only be better

September 25, 2009 filed under Arb | 9 Comments

I know one shouldn’t wish one’s life away… and it’s only 3 months until Christmas, but man, this month has been bad.  Next month can only be better.  @Tertia and @EveD were just saying the same thing on Twitter, and I have to moan here too!

Reasons why this month has been crap include:

1. Connor being hospitalised

2.  Lance still not finding a job

3.  Fights and more fights at work and everyone in the strangest of moods

4.  Nicole (SIL) being hospitalised for unknown causes

5.  Bradley starting to lie more and more often, and it’s a huge cause for concern

6.  Realisation that I have to redo a corporate shoot because I forgot to ask the men to wear jackets – so I know they won’t be accepted and I won’t be paid for it.

7.  I’m so very tired and I can’t snap out of this mood

8.  Pool looks like a pond, and we have to replace the pump and the filters and the pipes.

9.  Stove packed in, and still can’t find the cause for it… and we really don’t have the money to replace the whole thing

10. Garden is an absolute mess and needs time and money spent on it.

.. and the list goes on…

Kneed my ego

July 22, 2009 filed under Arb | 9 Comments

By the time I got home tonight, I was so freaking annoyed!!

I flew to Durban for the day, and I stupidly wore wide lgged pants with a turn-up at the bottom, and high heels.  Do you know how many times I freaking tripped?  My heel kept hooking in the turn-up.  Now when you’re looking and feeling like a pack horse with handbag, camera bag, tripod and laptop bag… that’s not a good thing!

In fact, I even fell and sent my camera kit sprawling across the slate tiles..  thankfully only a handful of people saw it… but damn my knees are sore!! I’ve seriously bruised them and my ego!

I feel like actually chucking those pants in the bin actually!!  Arrrgggghhh!

I could have been anyone

I went to collect my renewed driver’s license yesterday afternoon from the licensing department, and thankfully it was a quick and painless exercise, and I now have a valid drivers license again!

But I can find things to moan about in any situation ;)

I get into the building to be confronted with posters stuck up all over the walls proclaiming that you must produce your ID with your receipt to collect the license.  Well, clearly that’s not a pre-requisite, because I couldn’t find my ID book anywhere in my handbag.

The clerk behind the counter just says “don’t worry, give me your receipt” and promptly hands over my license.  I didn’t even have to sign anything.  They have absolutely NO proof that it was me.

No wonder there’s so many people with fake driver’s licenses driving around South Africa!

Has the law changed?

June 30, 2009 filed under Arb | 7 Comments

Since when are learner drivers allowed to drive without a qualified driver being in the car with them?

What makes some of the people I pass on the roads so special, that they can…

1.  Buy a brand new car

2.  Drive that brand spanking new car  ALONE with L plates on the back window

… on the roads when they can clearly not drive?! There’s one particular lady that drives around Sandton in a brand new car that is very obviously a learner – she’s too scared to even drive around the corners in the parkade at work – she inches around them.  What makes it OK for her to drive without a license?!!

She’s going to kill someone… or herself  in the process…. I’m convinced, she’s seriously that bad!

An abortion of a story

January 19, 2009 filed under Arb | Comments Closed

Beauty told me a few stories on Friday that literally made my hair stand on ends.  It’s been bugging me since then, so I just have to share my distress.

I mentioned last year, that Beauty has a little sister who had a baby.  She stays with Beauty, and Beauty insisted that she went back to school to finish her studies after the baby was born.  She did her matric last year (final school year).

However… Beauty discovered last week that her sister fell pregnant again. While she was writing her finals last year she was pregnant. And then she had an abortion apparently when she was about 2 months pregnant.  She’d asked a friend of hers where to go, because that friend has had a few abortions and knew where to go… nice contraception method… but that’s not the point of this story.

And that friend was the person who eventually told Beauty.  As you can imagine Beauty is livid, in fact, she’s told her sister to leave the house now and she has to now live with her new boyfriend (not the father of the first child – who is now living with the father’s granny in the Eastern Cape).

What she also told Beauty, was that something went wrong during the abortion, and that her sister collapsed, and the doctor apparently asked the friend to call the family… and her sister refused and told the doctor that the family wasn’t around.  Nice!  Luckily for her sister, it all ended ok because she seems to be fine now.

Anyhoo, Beauty went on to tell me that one of the abortions that this friend has had… was done when she was 7 months pregnant!! OMG!  That blew my mind.  She was told to take a pill… and then the baby was born dead.  Nice!  That’s not just highly illegal… that’s murder!!

The fact that there are people in Jo’burg that will readily take money from these girls and then kill their babies makes me so mad!!  There are legal abortion clinics all over the place… but they’re obviously working above the law and will abide by the abortion timelines… but these back-street clinics just blow my mind.  I actually didn’t know that they were still around.  The whole purpose of legallising abortion was to stop this kind of thing from happening.

Then the story got worse.  Beauty then told me about her one neighbour who was cheating on her husband and fell pregnant 2 years ago.  She apparently knew that when the baby was born he was going to figure out that the baby wasn’t his.  So at 8 months pregnant she went to an abortion clinic.  They gave her a pill.  From the sounds of what happened, it sounds like it was a pill to bring on labour.

The neighbour then went into labour one night, and locked herself into the bathroom.  When the husband got into the bathroom he found his wife lying on the floor with the baby in a plastic bag in front of her.  He then called Beauty to help, also because he didn’t want to be accused of anything.  She insisted that the police get called… but they took so long to get there that they eventually called the ambulance because by then she had passed out.  And guess what…  NOTHING happened to her!! NOTHING!! She killed her baby for God sake, and NOTHING happened!

It blows my mind.

His many wives

January 18, 2009 filed under Arb | 9 Comments

I read an article in the Saturday Star yesterday about Jacob Zuma’s many wives.  I don’t know what rock I’ve been living under, because I knew that he had more than one wife, but as sure as heck didn’t know he had that many!!  I found this article in the Mercury tonight that explains them all, and I see that there’s an article in the Sunday Times today about the same topic too!

And not only does he have 4 wives currently (he divorced one, and one committed suicide)… but he has 18 children from them and other woman.  The youngest of which is 7 months old!!

I also didn’t realise that the wife that he married last year was 34 at the time… that’s almost the same age as me.  And the mother of the 7mth old is about the same age (according to another article I found).

Now, I get that polygamy is quite acceptable in Zulu culture, and in fact that’s not what bothers me about this whole thing.  As far as I’m concerned he can have 10 wives, I don’t really care.  But dude… he’s not exactly a spring chicken at 67… what’s the deal with marrying more young wives… he’s apparently going to marry the other woman who he’s had children with.   Maybe he’s only marrying them so that they’re legal and can be supported by the government?

But that’s besides my point… he’s old… why does he feel the need to have so many young wives… some of them are about 30 years younger than him… and what’s the deal with him wanting to procreate at his age! Isn’t 18 kids enough?!  After all, the taxpayers are going to have to support them all!

From now on, I’m going to look at him in a new light… and it’s not a flattering one… he’s a dirty old man in my eyes.

Stupid plumber!

June 24, 2008 filed under Arb | Comments Closed

We’ve had a leaking something for the last few days which has resulted in our garage flooding after we have a shower.  We thought it was either the shower pipe that was broken or the drain that was blocked or both, and Lance couldn’t fix it. So, I phoned the plumber who duly came this morning to sort the problem out.

“Dufus” left a note for me, which I got this evening.  The leak was caused by the drain that was blocked, and he fixed the problem.  Guess what it was caused by?  Apparently it was tampons!!

Ja right!!  Idiot!!  Just because there’s a female in the house, you can’t just assume that I use tampons!!  Idiot!!

It’s impossible that it’s caused by tampons!  I use a mooncup damnit!!
