As soon as I read/watched this vlog post on Mishi’s blog, who found it on Playgroupie’s blog, and I knew I had to do it too. I spent quite a while last night travelling from blog to blog watching the vlogs and loving that I could listen to my favourite bloggers, and not just read their thoughts. No-one ever sounds like the way you imagine they do.
The whole purpose behind this vlog meme is to hear everyone’s accents. Most bloggers taking part are American or Canadian… it’s about time there was someone from South Africa taking part in it 😉
This is the story… say the following words, and then answer the questions…
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
* What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
* What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
* What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
* What do you call gym shoes?
* What do you say to address a group of people?
* What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
* What do you call your grandparents?
* What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
* What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
* What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
So, here goes:
Just me Talking
It’s very odd watching myself. LOL!!  One thing I forgot to say in my vlog is that I’ve only ever lived in Zimbabwe and South Africa… hence my accent sounding like it does
I’ve heard you in-person before but I still loved watching this. Too fun!
No wonder your accent is so correct – you’re a ZIMBO. D is also Zimbabwean 🙂
And I did not know some of those things….
And now I’m going to work 🙂 (yes, very late what with the baby watching on you tube)
hahahaha. It must be very funny hearing your voice back. I remember watching myself talk to Bryan on Skype wwhen I was in Sweden. I hated it! I always thought my voice sounded silly!
And – why aren’t you at work yet???? 🙂 I’ve been here for 3 hours already 🙂
HA HAHA – Oh I’ve just had a face palm moment, because I’ve just realised that as much as I might try to deny my ‘South Africanisms’ every single one of my answers were the same as yours – the only differences were in the pronounciation of Alabama etc. Off to listen to the others now. Jen from Playgroupie, had never heard of takkies or a Songalolo before – I had left my answers in her comments – in written form 🙂
Loved this! I may have to do one for myself at some point… maybe, possibly… probably. 😉 x
I remember way back when I did my first vlog, everybody loved to hear the SA accent
I would love to do this but I freeze up every time a recorder comes my way, even on my computer *blush*
This WAS fascinating! I’m so glad you did this, I really enjoyed your accent and hearing the words you use for these things.
Wow, that was so cool to watch 🙂
Oh I so enjoyed watching that Jeanette.
Made me have a giggle.
Okay….so I don’t know if it’s pregnancy hormones or I am way more homesick than I realized, but tears welled up when I played your vlog and I actually cried. Silly girl, I am 🙂
It was soooo lovely to hear your voice and see your animated face again!
My accent has changed slightly, but I still use those South Africanisms and confuse the heck out of my US family!
Very cool, and you look very awake for pre-work… if that had been me I’d have been half asleep! 🙂
fun! you inspired me to do my own version!
So did any of your overseas readers ask for sub-titles? I’m just wondering since they put sub-titles on TV when a South African or Australian speaks english!
😛
Amazing to hear you instead of just read you 😉
Came across your video post via Gina’s post. Very nice! I’ve also been wanting to video blog, I recorded quite a bit but was too shy/self-conscious to post it, so I trashed it.
I am thinking of maybe doing this meme, big maybe!
Enjoyed watching this vlog.
