We met up with Madelein and her family for a few hours of fun and a picnic at the model train museum in Florida (West of Johannesburg) today. We hadn’t been there since Bradley was one, and I’m so pleased that all the kids enjoyed the train trips… they’re not too old yet 🙂
The Rand Society of Model Engineers opens the station on two Sundays a month, and for R5 you can get a ticket to ride on the steam trains around the train tracks on the property. It’s so cool!! The train is faster than I thought it would be and you go over bridges and under tunnels and under trees… the track is 850m long… long enough for the kids not to be bored 🙂
It was lovely to see the engines in such amazing condition, and the love that these guys have for their hobby. We’re going to go again… definitely… and next time we’ll make sure we go on the first Sunday of the month when the bigger engines are put through their paces.
This engine was called Fugli 🙂 and even though it’s small, it went on the tracks while we were there and it pulled one of those men without a problem!
It’s a fantastic family day out, and not expensive at all… I definitely recommend it!
Thanks for sharing! I will definitely take our little one as well!
Looks fantastic! There’s one in Centurion as well – lots of fun
Wow, that looks like a great time.
It’s good to see that things like that are still operating and are supported.
It looks fantastic! And exactly the kind of outing we can enjoy with our nephews!
