A hotel with a brewery attached… a WIN in anyone’s books! Even if you don’t drink beer you’re assured of an awesome pub meal for a simple supper! Anyway, that’s where we stayed this weekend in the Midlands… at a hotel called Rawdons.

In fact, on Friday evening, we did in fact even have one of those pub suppers! The whole wedding party met up at Rawdons in the evening for a few beers at the Boars Head Pub. I even tried the paddle of speciality beers… not that I’m much of a beer drinker though, so that part was a little lost on me. I did like the Pale Ale though 🙂 It was a thousand times better than the red wine they had on offer though 😉 so beer it had to be!

I can however tell you that their pub grub was incredible! I had something called the Pickled Pig Pie, which wasn’t porky at all… in fact it was a beef pie made with their pickled pig ale! Ooh it was uber yummy! Connor had their ribs and declared them “phenomenal”, and Lance had a vegetarian pasta which was also great. Bradley didn’t much like the bangers and mash though, he didn’t like the way the bangers were cooked. And some of my family ate the curry, and they all declared it very yummy too!

Anyway, you stay in a hotel because of the rooms… so here’s what I thought. We booked a family suite with a bathroom that was shared between the 2 rooms. The rooms were beautiful. However, why must family suites be at the bum end of any hotel?! Seriously! We went there for the view, yet our room was at the back of the hotel facing the car park right next to reception! I was most disappointed with that actually. If that’s the only family option available, not sure I want to go back there.

I suppose we really did only use the room to sleep in, but it would have been nice to wake up looking over the lake! I didn’t even get to Instagram first thing in the morning! LOL!

On Saturday morning, before the wedding, we went on a short walk around the dam… after watching a resident cat catch a snake! And in fact, that walk and the cat incident was the only thing Connor told his teacher about the wedding! It was the most exciting thing he did all weekend.

The cat took a liking to Bradley and followed him over the bridge… which caused Connor to run! I had no idea Connor was so scared of cats!

Anyway, it was a comfortable stay in beautiful rooms 🙂

One thing that was sorely missing from the hotel was WiFi! None! In fact, that’s one thing I missed about most of the trip around the Midlands!
