Have you taken your kids to Sandton Build a Bear yet? You really should, it’s so much fun!
We were invited to Build a Bear at a workshop that was held for bloggers, but I couldn’t make the date. Instead, we headed off to Sandton Build a Bear workshop at Sandton City on Saturday morning. I took Connor with me.
He’s 9, but he’s always loved bears. They are tucked away now at the top of his cupboard, but he was still keen to do this with me.
Build a Bear’s Phindile was amazing! Connor was a little dubious when we started, because he wasn’t sure he wanted to make a bear for himself or as a gift for someone else. Phindile made him feel really special, and cleverly showed him the more funky bears and outfits, instead of the cutesy cuddly ones.
In the end he chose Toothless, from the movie “How to Train your Dragon”. I would have chosen the pony actually, or even the two-headed green dragon, but he wanted the plain black one.
Phindile and I tried to convince him that the batman outfit or the camo gear would be awesome on his bear…
Then it was time to choose something to go in it. You can choose between a scent, a beating heat or a voice activator. Connor loved the smell of the bubblegum scent, so that’s what he chose.
Oh I loved this! Every bear needs a heart inside it. So Connor had to rub it on his forehead for intelligence. Rub it on his arm for strength, and on his heart to remind him to always love it. There were more but if I type them all out, the magic of going with your kids will be lost.
Once we’d built our bear, given it a name, and packaged “Chipless” in his box, we had to say the bear promise.
It was such an awesome experience! Connor loves his Toothless that he named Chipless… probably because he smells like sweet bubblegum 😉 He’s actually amazed me with the bear, and it takes pride of place on his bed. My mom told me this evening that he spoke about the Sandton Build a Bear experience the whole way home from school today. The whole morning was such a success!
If you’re wondering what to do with your children this festive season, then the Ultimate Build a Bear Experience is one thing to add to the list. Connor was even happy for me to shop a little afterwards… which is a win!
They also have various party options available. It may be a nice idea for littlies birthdays.
